A very unusual fern, the Staghorn is comprised of broad, rigid fronds that take on one of two shapes. The first, known as antler fronds, are lobed and come to several points, resembling deer antlers. The second, shield fronds, are often wide and solid. Although it will grow in soil, the Staghorn fern does not actually need soil to survive. This type of fern is capable of rooting itself around structures and other plants.
